John 13:34-35 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Earlier this week one of Australia’s most successful Olympians declared to the country that he is gay. His revelation has stirred all kinds of responses. Here is mine.
I am one of those Christians who believes that homosexuality is not God’s design. That is my opinion.
Everyone has opinions. Having your own point of view is good. I guarantee that you and I do not share the same convictions on many counts. That’s okay, we are different people.
For Christians there is a trump card that overrides every opinion: love. Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you.”
I don’t agree with a homosexual lifestyle. I differ with many people’s lifestyle and choices. Whether I agree or not is of no consequence.
I can disagree and not judge.
I can disagree and choose love.
As the interview “revealing all” was aired, another Australian sports person tweeted, “Unconditional love for you.” He played the trump card. Not the judgement card. Or the fear card. The love card. As Christ loved us.
Christ’s love conquers all. The world will be drawn as we raise the banner of His love above all else – including our own opinions.
So, my fellow Australian, Olympic hero: unconditional love. Retweet.
