Christmas Desire

Malachi 3:1 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

God comes suddenly. Unexpectedly. He is not common. He is unusual. A baby in a manger. A carpenter from Nazareth. A servant.

The one you are seeking.

Men of the East came seeking a king. They sought Him with gifts. An act of worship. Do I still seek Him? Do I search Him while He may be found? Do I seek Jesus out to worship and offer a sacrifice of my life?

Will come to His temple.

Me. I am His temple. Jesus has come to me. He lives in my heart.

Messenger of the covenant.

The covenant I have with God is a covenant of grace. A covenant that makes me righteous. A covenant making me free.

Whom you desire.

Desire is a strong word. It provokes intimacy.

Israel desired Jesus. Old Simeon and prophetess Hannah tarried in the temple because of their desire. They desired nothing more than Christ. Nothing came between them and their desire for Messiah.

What comes between me and Jesus? Is my desire strong? Has it waned?

He is coming. This Christmas. To those who seek and desire Him.

Messenger of a New Covenant. The Lord. Messiah. Prince of peace. Emmanuel.
