Together At Christmas

Christmas is a time of together. Together with family. Together with friends. Together we give. Together we share. Together we love.

Together has been a theme of my life for the last few months. It has been a message God has spoken to my heart for my church and in my writing. I released my latest book on marriage and titled it, Together. As I round out the year, please indulge me as I present one last thought on together.

Because more than marriage, more than church, more than sharing and giving, none of it makes sense without Jesus – the God who chose to be together with us.

Matthew 1:23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” which means “God with us”.

It was never us with God. We don’t have to try reach heaven. Heaven reached down to us. Christmas is a celebration of when God came down to be together with us. Together with you. Together with me.

God has always wanted to be with us. He created us for relationship. From the beginning He longed to be together with us.

Genesis 3:8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden.

God always reached out to be together with His creation. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Samson, David, Solomon, Elijah, Isaiah, three Hebrews in the fire – God reached down to them, was together with them.

When Christ was born, it became permanent.

John 1:14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

So what will you do with Emmanuel this Christmas? He desires to be together with you. At every function. Every trip to the mall. In every Carol that is sung. At the table of every Christmas meal. Jesus has made a home amongst your life.

Just before Christ departed earth and was raised to the clouds He left one final message:

Matthew 28:20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Emmanuel made His home among us on the first Christmas, and He never left.

God came to be together with us. With you. It’s important to do marriage & church together, it’s even more important to do life together with Jesus.

This Christmas I pray you are aware of Emmanuel, God with you. The ultimate expression of together.

Need a great Christmas gift for a friend? Why not gift them blessing on their marriage journey, Together: A Journey Of Godly Marriage?
