All In – The Unlimited Series

Matthew 13:44-46 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

Before I even became a Christian I had a Good News Bible. In my memory I recall the thin pages and the small sketches depicting a Bible scene.

And I remember this passage in my Good News Bible. I can visualise reading these parables on the page. As a child, they were my favourite parables, yet I had no idea why.

Now considerably older, it has dawned on me that I was drawn to these few verses because they are about passion. They are about being all-in.

I may not be out-going, compassionate or much of a fighter, but one thing I am is passionate. I am an all-in kinda girl.

Jacob of the Bible was an all-in kinda guy. He completely disguised himself as Esau. He did not do this by halves. He wore goat skin all over along with Esau’s clothes.

If his neck wasn’t covered, his hands left uncovered, if his clothes did not smell like Esau, Jacob would not have received the blessing. Jacob had to be all-in. The kingdom of heaven is all-in.

Life with Jesus isn’t done in halves. You cannot compartmentalise God. Two hours on Sunday is not kingdom life. God gets everything.

All-in can be tough. Walk the journey and you will get hurt. You will experience disappointment. You will feel used.

So you take back a little of your heart.

And to everyone else you look just as committed. But in your heart you know.

God is looking for all-in.

Jacob had his fair share of hurt – Esau wanted kill him, Laban deceived him, Joseph presumed dead – yet it never got in the way of Jacob being all-in.

Where have you been holding back? Marriage? Relationships? Your children? Church? God?

Throw yourself all in. No more holding back. All in. Whatever it is, be all in.

I have decided to follow Jesus.
No turning back, no turning back.
