2 Kings 4:16 (NLT) “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!”“No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.”
The story of the Shunamite woman and Elisha is one of my favourites. I believe it is a story many women can relate to. I encourage you to read the entire chapter and meditate on God’s Word to you. You will hold a baby in your arms.
The woman of Shunam was a successful, God-fearing woman. Her every need was adequately supplied, to the point that she was able to be generous toward others. The one thing she could not have was a child.
In Bible times, girls married young. There was no birth control. For a while, she was hopeful. After a few years, concerned. Once a decade or two had passed, she realised that she would never have a child.
Elisha knew the Shunamite woman wanted something. But what? Gehazi wasn’t so clueless. A child! Elisha called on the woman, gave the Word, and it was done.
The Shunamite woman was not convinced. She had been disappointed before, she didn’t want to be devastated again. But when God gives the Word, you can get your hopes up. You can be excited.
So get your hopes up. You will be expecting a baby.
Prayer: Lord, I am hopeful. I believe Your Word to me. You want me to have a child. I see myself holding a baby in my arms this time next year. My hopes are up!
