You are Called out of Darkness

1 Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

I used this verse in my book Expecting Daily Pregnancy Devotion. The devotion encouraged parents to call their baby from the darkness of the womb and into the light and life of the world (in the final week, of course). As I pen this post, I have a similar feeling in my heart. God is doing something in the spirit. Today there is a calling out. A birthing of the new. A birthing out of darkness and into the light.

Christians throw around the word ‘called’. We attribute being ‘called’ with a significant event such as hearing an audible voice from heaven. It has a high spiritual connotation.

In truth, all of us are called. You are called out of darkness. Dark is not where you belong. It is not where you live. It is not your permanent situation. This is the start of life on the other side. The side of light.

For some, the darkness has been around a long time. So long it is difficult to see a way out. So long the darkness seems normal. But it is not normal. Follow the Light. Jesus knows the way out of your darkness. He is the good Shepherd. He is with you in the valley, leading you out.

And you are chosen. 2 Peter also declares you are chosen. Father chose you as His very own. With all your faults and pain. Chose you to serve as priest.

Priests engage in worship through sacrifice. We no longer offer blood sacrifices as they did in the Old Trstament, but we offer a different kind of sacrifice. A living sacrifice. A sacrifice of praise. And through the sacrifice of praise, you show others the goodness of God.

Offer a sacrifice of praise. Since you don’t want to, it will feel like sacrifice. Do it anyway, because as you offer a sacrifice of praise, dead becomes living, darkness becomes light.

You, beautiful chosen one, are called. Called to live. Called to Light. This is your day to come out of the darkness.

Pray with me: Jesus, I accept my calling to live in Your light. Take my hand and lead me out of the darkness. I don’t want to live there any more. I offer up a sacrifice of praise and see new life birthed in my situation. Thank You for being Light in my world. Amen.

Did you feel a release from darkness today? I would love to hear from you.
